Thank you for reading, Dovra. Luis was startingly honest, and it’s such an important topic. So many immigrants here for a lifetime are not getting an opportunity to regularize their status. It’s shameful.

I wish more republicans read this blog. The country can use more understanding and empathy for the humanity of people who call this their home but who don't have full rights

These children of DACA are working hard in school and in jobs. They are loyal and upright. They deserve the chance to APPLY for citizenship as they have proved themselves worthy.

Brooke, he did in fact get to return with prior permission for only one week to visit his sick sister. in Colombia. It was by special request for this reason. Was only able to do this because of his status on DACA. It's all very uncertain and scary.

Marlena, gracias for shedding light on this very complicated and important issue. I feel many of my friends’ experiences in this interview. So few people recognize how difficult the path to citizenship is. Grateful for the conversation!

This was so interesting to read. The DACA program has helped so many. I'm curious if Luis has gone back to Colombia at all -- I'm assuming not, but is it something he would like. To show his son where he came from?
